This restaurant is in a very quiet place between Cancun and Playa del Carmen. The village (or city) is called Puerto Morelos and has signs from road 307 (main road). The food was GREAT and FRESH. We just loved it and the prices were great too.

This is an easy day trip from Madison, WI, and well worth the trip. I was hesitant to go because I thought it sounded like a real tourist trap. I'm glad I changed my mind! The house was built over a period of time, one room at a time, literally on top of a huge rock. And, though the house itself is a marvel, it's what's inside that amazes. Alex Jordan, the builder, was a collector, and the house is an amazing display of everything from mineature circuses to a full-size operational multi-storied carousel to musical instruments (some his own creations) to a plethora of dollhouses to an entire town street! You just have to visit yourself to understand the complexity of this site. I spent five hours and used an entire photo card. Wear comfortable shoes, as you will do a LOT of walking. Get the full 3-part admission; it's worth it. |

I enjoy exploring rail-trails & canal-trails all over the country. Many of them start in the countryside & end up in the heart of large towns or even major cities. But it's surprising how close to town I can be on one of these trails and have the place all to myself. (except on weekends) The C & O Canal Towpath trail is a good example. I started a bike ride in Connelsville, PA on the Great Allegheny Passage trail and rode all the way into (& through) Washington D.C. I would often go for hours at a stretch without seeing another person. And I thought the scenery & wildlife was beautiful. There are similar trails in every state and every major city in the U.S. So I ride on as many as possible and report my experience on the Trailsnet.com website. I'm always amazed that more people haven't discovered the beauty of these incredible national treasures. |
